We keep our smartphones as carefully as possible these days. Most of us are aware of the sensitive nature of most of these devices and avoid taking any possible risks. But sometimes that’s just not possible and we end up in situations that can easily damage our smartphones. One such situation is when water enters the charging port of our device. What do we do in that case? And no, putting it in a box of raw rice won’t help. Don’t worry, I am going to tell you just that today.
SurveyHow to remove water from charging ports?
There are five ways that you can use to dry your smartphone’s ports. Let’s check them out.
Switch off your device
Without any second thoughts, the first step in case water enters your smartphone charging port should be to switch it off immediately. And make sure you do not turn it on unless and until the charging port is completely dried, along with the headphone jack, and other components.
Additionally, if there’s any wire connected to your device when it gets wet, then remove those things too. If your entire smartphone is wet, then carefully remove the SIM card tray, SIM card, and any external memory cards.
Once this is done, wipe it carefully using a clean cloth.

Tap it against your hand
Once you have externally dried the water, hold your smartphone vertically with the charging port facing down. Now gently tap it on your hand. Continue this process until you’re certain that you’ve gotten most of the water out.
Allow the device to air-dry
Before you turn on your smartphone again, allow it to air dry for some time. Air drying allows the water to evaporate naturally without causing too much harm to the device. You can even turn on your fan to speed up the process.
Use Silica Gel
Now, in case your device is taking too long to dry up, then you can use some external tricks. Like you can keep bags of silica gel around the charging port to excess moisture. You can even put the smartphone in a bag with a few silica packets to absorb more moisture.

Use a Water Ejector if you have an iPhone
Now Apple has an in-built feature to eject the water from the Apple devices. But before we get into that, Apple does not recommend that you turn your device back on before letting it dry for at least 5 hours. Follow these steps if you are an iOS user:
- Turn off your iPhone quickly to avoid extra damage.
- Once you feel the charging port has dried enough, turn your iPhone back on.
- You will then see a “Liquid Detected” alert.
- Now ask Siri to turn the Water Ejector on or just click on this link: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/8632a30b2b814c4c914983351bb8a856
- You will be taken to a “Water Eject” Siri shortcut.
- Now, add this shortcut.
- Once this is done, click on the shortcut to initiate water removal.
- You will see a drop-down menu, here click on “Begin water ejection” and then wait for it to complete the process.
This is how you can prevent damage to your smartphone. Pro tip: Never use your smartphone immediately after it gets wet. In every instance, turn it off and wait for the water to dry up.
