First Impressions: Oppo N1

First Impressions: Oppo N1
HIGHLIGHTS

Another Chinese brand has hit the Indian market. Now with their flagship device announced, will Oppo be anything great?

Oppo has officially entered the Indian market by launching the N1 smartphone today at a launch event. We got to play around with the huge device which comes with a very innovative rotating 13MP camera and some unique gestures.

The design of the smartphone gives off a nice premium feel. Although all plastic, the finishing is pretty good. The smartphone has a large 5.9 inch Full HD IPS display and is powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor with an Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The 13MP module on the top of the smartphone is quite interesting as it can be rotated to act as a front facing camera.

The N1 runs on Android 4.2 with ColourOS UI which includes a number of gestures that easily allow you to open apps like the camera, music player and more. There is also a sensor on the back panel which allows you to swipe through your pictures. The UI layer is a bit heavy and it does make the smartphone slightly sluggish but we hope new updates will improve it further. For now Oppo has only launched the 16GB (non-expandable memory) variant and there is no confirmation of the 32GB version or the Cyanongen Mod version of the N1. The company also plans to launch the R1 in India in the month of February.

Probably the biggest let down of the smartphone is the price. At Rs. 39,999 it sounds very expensive considering there are smartphones with much better specs already available in India.
