Pressure, taunts and years of practice: How team W2R Won SKOAR! College Cup Delhi Edition

Winning a college esports tournament is exciting. And winning it after seven years of relentless grind feels almost unreal. When Team W2R lifted the trophy at the SKOAR! College Cup Delhi Edition BGMI grand finale, the celebration was about much more than just six good matches on a single day. It was about years of scrims that went unnoticed, tournaments that did not go their way, long practice sessions after classes, and the quiet belief that one day they would make it to a LAN stage. For this team, the trophy was not a surprise stroke of luck. It was the result of consistency built over time.

From grinding in classic matches to lifting a trophy

Team W2R’s journey did not begin on a big stage. It began in regular classic matches, long before trophies and LAN events were even a realistic goal. One of the players said they had been grinding for seven years for a moment like this. Back then, they used to watch videos of LAN competitions on YouTube and imagine what it would feel like to stand on that stage. They did not even know each other until one and a half years ago. Today, they are champions together.

Interestingly, the team did not rely on flashy strategies in the six final matches. Their focus was only to stay consistent. They made it clear that they did not create new plans for the finale. Instead, they stuck to what worked for them throughout the season. They were already leading in the online phase and carried that form into the LAN. While teams like Aquila had strong moments, W2R ensured steady performances across matches. In esports, domination in one round can win cheers. But it is consistency across matches that wins trophies. That is exactly what they delivered.

Offline Pressure, family expectations and more

Online matches are comfortable. You play from home, in your own space. But LAN tournaments are different. And the players admitted that the pressure was real. Competing in front of a live audience, surrounded by rival teams, changes the atmosphere completely. Yet, instead of letting that pressure affect them, they used it as fuel. They wanted to dominate and they did.

One emotional highlight came after the win. A player shared that he dedicated the trophy to his parents. He spoke about the taunts he once heard at home for spending so much time gaming. But after the victory, his father called and appreciated him. That call meant more than the trophy itself.

Another player said he wants to dedicate the win to his younger self, the one who started grinding without any guarantee of success.

“I would like to dedicate this trophy to my younger self, who started grinding. There was a time we used to play classic, then we started from T3. At that time, we just used to watch these videos on YouTube about LAN competitions, trophies and so on. We never thought we would actually be playing it ourselves. Now that we are here, it is a surreal feeling,” he said.

When asked about their biggest competitors, Team W2R did not hesitate to name Team Aquila. According to them, there was talk from the other side. But in the end, they let their gameplay do the talking.

From online leaders to overall champions, Team W2R’s journey at the SKOAR! College Cup Delhi Edition now stands as a reminder that in esports, patience and persistence always pay off.
