Sony at E3, 2016: Games, games and VR games
HIGHLIGHTS

From God of War, to PlayStation VR, to Hideo Kojima’s new game, and finally a release date for the Last Guardian.

The worlds largest gaming event, E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) is underway and Sony had a lot to offer. The company spoke about the only things that mattered – games, games and some VR games. Sure, expectations were high for the PS4 Neo to make an appearance, considering Microsoft officially announced Project Scorpio, but we think Sony is saving that for the PlayStation Experience event.

E3 2016 was good for Sony. The conference started with God of War and ended with a live gameplay demo of Days Gone, a zombie shooter that looks like it’s inspired by Uncharted and The Last of Us. We saw a Spider-man game trailer by Insomniac, a Batman game for the PlayStation VR, by Rocksteady Studios, and last but not least, the Last Guardian, which now has a release date – October 25, 2016. Did we mention Hideo Kojima took the stage to unveil the trailer for his upcoming game? If you want to feel the energy that swarmed the halls at Sony’s announcement, we recommend you check out the complete press conference below.

If you want a quick run through of the entire conferece, read on…

God of War

Sony’s E3 2016 press conference opened with God of War. Rumours of the game have been circulating the inter-webs for a few months now. Apparently, players would don the role of a new protagonist. In the live gameplay demo, however, we saw the legendary warrior, Kratos, train his son to hunt. By the way, Kratos looks stunning with his beard. The visuals of the games looked stellar too, and the best part – free roaming camera. Check out the gameplay demo below.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare may have received negative fan reactions when the game was first announced, but if the E3 2016 gameplay reveal is anything to go by, the space FPS combat looks exhilarating.

Death Stranding

When Hideo Kojima took the stage at E3 2016, the crowd went into uproar. Kojima showcased a trailer for his upcoming game, Death Stranding, and I'll let the trailer do the talking.

Spider-Man

The masterminds behind the Ratchet and Clank franchise and Sunset Overdrive have announced a Spider-Man game. Spider-Man games in the past have been lackluster when it comes to gameplay. If Rocksteady could make an epic Batman game, can Insomniac do the same for your friendly neighbourhood web slinger?

Final Fantasy XV

It’s a Final Fantasy game! To top it off, gamers will be able to play the game with the PlayStation VR. Need we say more?

Batman Arkham VR

PlayStation VR will launch in the US on October 13, for $400, and if there is one game we are looking forward to, it is the Batman VR game. It is being developed by Rocksteady Studios.

Resident Evil 7

Another game that gamers will be able to play in full VR is Resident Evil 7. The reason we are excited to play this game is because the games ambience is very reminiscent of P.T.

Detroit Become Human

If you enjoy games like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, then you can look forward to Detroit Become Human. The game is all about making choices and how those choices affect the final outcome.

Horizon Zero Dawn

We have seen this game in action before, so there is little new here. Just some more gameplay.

The Last Guardian

After what seems like a lifetime, The Last Guardian has a release date – October 25, 2016.  For the uninitiated, the game was first showcased at E3 2009. Can you imagine the excitement?

Crash Bandicoot

Spoiler alert here! In Uncharted 4 you get to play one level of Crash Bandicoot, giving old school gamers some nostalgic value and showing new gamers a taste of what PS1 games were like. Activation still holds the rights for the game and Sony announced that Activision will release a remastered Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and 3, for the PS4. Isn’t that cool?
