Meta reportedly testing WhatsApp Plus subscription: Here’s what to expect

WhatsApp is reportedly planning to launch a new subscription feature called WhatsApp Plus. This paid option is being developed for both Android and iOS devices. With the subscription, users may get more ways to customise the app. They could change the look of the interface and add personal touches to their chats. These additional tools are designed to make the app easier and more enjoyable to use. However, the WhatsApp service will remain free for everyone. As it is now, people will still be able to send messages, make voice or video calls, and share photos or videos without paying. The paid plan is only for users who want additional features and more control over how the app appears.

WABetaInfo recently reported the development of WhatsApp Plus on its official X handle. According to the report, the new option will focus mainly on giving users more ways to customise the look and feel of the app while keeping the main messaging tools unchanged for everyone.

With the premium subscription, users could get a higher limit for pinned chats. Currently, WhatsApp allows only three chats to be pinned at the top of the conversation list. With WhatsApp Plus, this limit could increase to 20 chats, allowing users to keep more important conversations within easy reach without scrolling through long chat lists.

The subscription is also expected to introduce several visual customisation options. Users may be able to change the theme of the app, adjust accent colours, and choose from a collection of 14 different app icons. These changes would allow people to give the app a look that matches their personal taste.

Other than that, WhatsApp is also said to explore exclusive ringtones that will be available only for WhatsApp Plus subscribers. These ringtones will help users to easily identify WhatsApp calls. Furthermore, it is expected that each of the ringtone options will be of a different style, giving users greater options than the default options.

It’s also anticipated that more features will be added to WhatsApp Plus over time, depending on how the subscription plan progresses. The initial reports on the plan indicate that WhatsApp is planning to add stickers for subscribers only. Along with that, the message reactions are also anticipated to be made even more expressive for a livelier experience.

WhatsApp Plus will remain optional if it launches, and as per the reports, the company is not planning to place any of the core messaging tools behind a paywall. Pricing details and a release timeline have not yet been announced, and the final set of features may still change before the plan becomes available.
