Gionee F205, S11 Lite selfie-centric smartphones with 18:9 FullView display launched: Price, specifications

Gionee has launched its two new mid-range selfie-centric smartphones in India today, which will go up against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (review), Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (review) and more. The two phones are the Gionee F205 and the Gionee S11 Lite, which are priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 13,999 respectively. The F205 will be available in Gold, Black, Rose, and Blue colour models, whereas the S11 comes in Black, Gold, and Dark Blue colour models. The two devices will be available via both offline and online channels starting April 26. Both, the Gionee F205 and S11, have been launched running on Amigo 5.0 OS, based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and comes with a taller 18:9 display aspect ratio, Bokeh effect, Private Space 2.0, Face Unlock, App Lock, and App Clone feature. The company didn’t say when, or whether, the smartphones will be updated to Android Oreo. 

In terms of specifications, The Gionee F205 features a 5.45-inch HD+ display with a 720x1440p resolution and is powered by the MediaTek MT6739 SoC, coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. On the other hand, the Gionee S11 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with the same resolution and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

In the camera department, the Gionee F205 comes with an 8MP single rear camera with an LED flash and on the front is a 5MP sensor. The Gionee S11 Lite features a 13MP + 2MP dual rear camera setup and on the front, it is equipped with a 16MP selfie camera which also supports Bokeh effect. The Gionee F205 and S11 are powered by 2670mAh and a 3030mAh battery respectively. The Gionee S11 features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, but the F205 misses out on one. 

Commenting on the launch, Alok Shrivastava, Director – National Sales of Gionee India said, “Setting off the new fiscal year with a bang, the primary driver behind our new launches F205 and S11 Lite is to amalgamate affordability with functionality. Catering to the swelling demand for pre-eminent smartphone features at competitive price points, both the launches are designed to lead the sub – 15K category in India. With new age features like Face Unlock, Fingerprint shutter, bokeh and group selfies with backlight; coupled with a Full View Display, we intend to establish connect with the youth and continue fulfilling their demands and requirements in the times to come.” In terms of connectivity, the two smartphones support Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, GPS, 4G VoLTE, Micro USB, and come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. 

Gionee previously launched the S10 Lite smartphone in India last year. It’s priced at Rs 15,999 and sports a 16MP selfie camera with "group selfie" and "bokeh selfie" features. The device comes with a 13MP primary camera with auto-focus (AF) and a flash, and is powered by a 3,100mAh battery. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 427 SoC with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB. It runs on the company’s custom Amigo 4.0 operating system (OS) based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
