LG is walking into CES 2026, to be held from January 6 till January 9, with a familiar promise and a bold claim. The company says it is ready to unveil the world’s lightest 17-inch laptop, and this time, the focus is not just on shaving grams off the scale. With the 2026 LG gram lineup, LG Electronics appears to be doubling down on a formula that blends extreme portability, serious performance, and AI-driven productivity, all wrapped in a design that finally looks as premium as it feels.
SurveyThe new lineup introduces a material LG calls Aerominum. Developed in-house, it is said to solve what has always been the biggest compromise in ultra-light laptops, weight versus durability. According to LG, Aerominum reduces overall weight while improving scratch resistance and structural strength, with the chassis meeting military-grade durability standards. The finish itself leans into a brushed metallic look, promising a more refined, less utilitarian identity for the laptops without adding bulk.

LG gram lineup to be showcased at CES 2026: What to expect
Beyond the physical redesign, LG is positioning AI as a core part of the gram experience rather than an extra. Select models in the 2026 lineup will support Microsoft Copilot+ PC features alongside LG’s own gram chat On-Device AI. Powered by the upgraded EXAONE 3.5 small language model, this on-device system will let users access AI assistance even when offline, promising to keeping data local and private.
LG’s approach here is clearly hybrid. On-device AI handles everyday tasks, quick queries, and private workflows, while cloud-based AI steps in for heavier lifting when connectivity allows. Combined with the latest processors and optimised system performance, LG says these machines are built to handle everything from creative workloads to dense multitasking sessions without breaking stride.
Another upgrade is expected in terms of Connectivity. The enhanced gram Link will support seamless file sharing, screen mirroring, and content transfer across Android, iOS, and webOS devices. That includes LG TVs, monitors, and projectors, effectively turning the laptop into a central hub across ecosystems that usually do not talk to each other very well. On the security front, LG ThinQ will enable remote locking and data erasure if the device is lost, a feature that feels increasingly essential for people working across multiple locations.
LG gram Pro 17 expected to be the world’s lightest 17-inch laptop
The star of the show will be the LG gram Pro 17, also known as the 17Z90UR. LG claims it packs the power of a traditional 17-inch RTX laptop into a body closer in size to a typical 16-inch machine. The large 17-inch WQXGA display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution is designed for long hours of productivity as well as immersive media consumption, without the physical footprint normally associated with laptops of this size.
Powering the gram Pro 17 will be the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7 memory. This will put the laptop firmly in the performance category, capable of handling graphics-heavy creative work, AI-assisted tasks, and even some gaming, all while maintaining the gram’s signature lightweight design. If LG delivers on its weight claims, this could be one of the most interesting large-screen laptops to surface at CES this year.
About LG gram Pro 16
Alongside the LG gram Pro 17 will be the LG gram Pro 16, model 16Z90U, which LG is calling the lightest 16-inch laptop in its class to feature both on-device and cloud-based AI. The 16-inch WQXGA+ OLED display with a 2880 x 1800 resolution is expected to be the star here, promising deep contrast and sharp visuals that suit both creative work and daily productivity.
Under the hood, the gram Pro 16 will run on Intel Core Ultra processors, promising responsive performance and efficient multitasking. This model feels aimed at professionals who want a premium screen and AI-enhanced workflows without stepping up to a dedicated GPU or a larger chassis.
LG says more details will be shared when the laptops are officially showcased at CES 2026. For now, lighter builds, smarter AI integration, and more confident design choices are the best words to describe what’s in store.
