Apple is expected to enter the foldable smartphone market next year with the long-rumoured iPhone Fold. One of the biggest goals of the iPhone Fold is said to offer a crease-free inner display. If this happens, it would be a major achievement, as even established players like Samsung have not fully removed the visible crease. A new report suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant is still facing technical challenges to get the cease-free inner display.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Apple is currently testing Ultra-Thin Flexible Glass (UFG) for the iPhone Fold, reports via Wccftech. Apple is said to be experimenting with UFG in different thickness levels to find the right balance between strength and flexibility. The inner display of a foldable phone relies on extremely thin glass, which makes it softer than normal smartphone screens. Because of this, durability becomes a major concern.
The tipster claims that the iPhone Fold is not expected to launch until around September next year, giving the company enough time to improve the design.
Interestingly, two unnamed smartphone makers are also testing similar UFG technology for their foldable phones. It’s important to note that Samsung has not been mentioned in connection with this new UFG testing.
Meanwhile, IDC reported earlier this month that the long-anticipated iPhone Fold is expected to capture more than 22 percent of foldable smartphone shipments and account for 34 percent of the market’s value in its debut year. Apple’s entry is likely to boost consumer interest in foldable devices and bring the category closer to mainstream attention.
