WhatsApp has been working on a new feature which will allow the users to chat with people who do not even have a WhatsApp account. As per the details spotted by WaBetaInfo, the feature is available on the latest Android beta version 2.25.22.13. However, the feature is currently under development and could roll out in the upcoming weeks. As per the report, the new feature will be called as guest chats and would let users initiate one-on-one conversations with non-WhatsApp users through a simple invite link.

Interestingly, the invited person would not need to install the application or not even create an account. Instead of that, they will be able to access the chat via a secure web interface, similar to WhatsApp Web. The report also mentions that all communication in guest chats will be end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that only the participants can view the messages.

Unlike the upcoming third-party chat integration required by EU regulations, which relies on external platforms connecting to WhatsApp, guest chats will be entirely managed within WhatsApp’s own ecosystem. This internal approach provides a more seamless and consistent user experience.

However, the report stated that guest chats will have some limitations. The users will be unable to share media such as photos, videos, or GIFs. Voice and video messages, as well as calling features, will be unavailable. Additionally, group chats are not supported, with the feature limited to individual conversations only.

The feature could be designed to provide a low-friction way for users to communicate with non-users while also encouraging them to explore WhatsApp without completing a full signup. The technical implementation of this feature is unknown, but the guest most likely accesses a temporary interface via a browser session that supports encrypted communication.

There is no official release date yet, but WhatsApp is expected to provide more information once development is completed. The company is still testing the feature internally, and a wider rollout may happen in the coming months.
