Upcoming Mobile Phones in India (June 2023)

Tech giant Google has already confirmed the launch of the latest Pixel 7a. The company took to Twitter to confirm that the much-anticipated phone will arrive on Indian shores on May 11 and will be available to purchase on e-commerce platform Flipkart. However, do note that Google hasn’t specifically mentioned the name of this device but judging by their past launch cycles, it is pretty clear that this will be the Pixel 7a. The teaser image Google shared on Twitter confirms that the Pixel 7a will retain a dual rear camera setup. However, according to certain leaks and rumours, the primary camera may be upgraded this time to a 64 MP Sony IMX787 lens while the 12 MP ultrawide shooter is expected to stay the same. It will be interesting to see Google’s computational photography magic with an upgraded shooter, for sure. The phone is expected to feature the Tensor G2 SoC, a 5 nm processor that performed decently well in our tests on the Pixel 7. The phone could also run Android 14 out of the box, which we are extremely excited to try out on the Stock Android experience Pixels provide. As for the price, the phone is expected to cost around ₹40,000 in India.

The POCO F5 is expected to launch in India on May 9. Snapdragon took to Twitter to confirm that the phone is arriving in India with its new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor. This is a 4 nm processor with 1 core clocked at 2910 MHz, 3 cores clocked at 2490 MHz, and 4 cores at 1800 MHz. The chipset could be a gamechanger for mid-range phones as it is expected to perform almost as well as the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor from 2022. So, we can expect the POCO F5 to be quite the performance champ, but it will be interesting to see how the SoC handles heat since the 8 Gen 1 ran pretty hot. The POCO F5 is also expected to house an AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and a triple camera setup with a 64 MP primary lens, all of which are pretty impressive specs for the price. The POCO F5 will most likely be available for purchase via Flipkart and is expected to be launched at ₹27,999 for the base variant.

Google is expected to launch two devices at the Google I/O event on May 10 – the Google Pixel 7a, which we have already spoken about, and the Google Pixel Fold. That’s right, this is Google’s debut in the foldable space. Those who enjoy Stock Android and want to try out new smartphone form factors will likely be very excited about this highly-anticipated launch. Renowned tipster Evan Blass has already shared leaked images of the device which indicate that this foldable could come with an extremely slim hinge and a massive external screen. The phone resembles OPPO’s Find N foldable in terms of aspect ratio – which is a good thing, since many enjoyed the wider aspect ratio of the cover display. The phone is expected to pack the same Tensor G2 processor as the Pixel 7 we tested, which means performance should be reliable. However, while the phone will likely launch on May 10 globally, it is unclear when the device will launch in India and at what price.

The Realme 11 series is set to make its debut in China on May 10. The lineup will allegedly feature the Realme 11 Pro and Realme 11 Pro+ smartphones. A new leak suggests that the company will also launch these devices alongside the Realme 11 and Realme Narzo N53 in India sometime in May. In fact, the Realme 11 Pro was recently certified on the BIS website, meaning the launch is imminent. The Realme 11 Pro is a mid-range device that will likely be very popular due to its aggressive price point and features on offer. The phone is speculated to house the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC which was recently unveiled by the fabless semiconductor company. The phone is rumoured to house a 108 MP primary camera, an OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 5,000 mAh battery. The curved screen will likely make its way back on a Realme 11 series phone, but we cannot know for sure if this will be on the Realme 11 Pro or the 11 Pro+.

The Motorola Moto Edge 40’s launch is imminent in India and the global markets. The company recently launched the Moto Edge 40 Pro in global markets, and the vanilla Edge 40 is expected to make its debut soon. The device was spotted on GeekBench and it also appeared on USA's FCC website which revealed its model number – XT2303-2. Recently the alleged renders and specifications of the device were leaked, so we do have an idea of what the device will look like. The Moto Edge 40 is expected to house a 6.5-inch pOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a whopping 144 Hz refresh rate. This combined with the alleged MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC that the device will likely feature will make it a great option for content consumption and performance-based tasks. The phone will likely come packing a 50 MP primary sensor with OIS, which means stable shots. You could also get Android 13 out of the box, but there’s no word on how many OS updates the device will get.

Samsung’s next-generation foldable lineup has been generating a lot of buzz on the internet and we recently got a look at CAD-based renders of the device courtesy OnLeaks and SmartPrix. The images reveal a raised camera bump in which three camera sensors are placed. The frame is slightly more curved on the edges compared to previous iterations as well. However, the aspect ratio of the outer display still seems to be quite narrow. One good improvement is the alleged reduced thickness thanks to the new ‘droplet’ hinge design. The phone is speculated to be 13.5 mm thick when closed now which is considerably thinner than the Z Fold 4. The new hinge will also likely eliminate the gap between the screens when it is closed. As for specifications, the phone will likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which has always been a consistent performer in all the phones that have this processor. You may also get other improvements such as Gorilla Glass Victus 2, S-Pen support, and IPX8 rating. According to new reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 may be releasing earlier than usual this year. We could see these devices launch as early as the last week of July in 2023.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could launch as early as the end of July, as we mentioned earlier. The display has a little tab sticking out on top which could be a handy spot to show information such as battery percentage and weather. According to reports, the outer display will likely measure at 3.4-inches while the unfolded one will be a more standard size – 6.7-inches. The phone is speculated to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which will allow for speedy fast performance and, of course, 5G connectivity. The cameras will most likely be upgraded as well, but there’s no concrete information on that front.

The Realme GT3 was unveiled by the company at MWC 2023 where we got some personal hands-on experience with the device. The phone’s USP is its ultra-fast 240 W charging that is the first in the industry. The 240 W charger tops the phone’s 4,600 mAh battery up in just 9 minutes from 0-100 and you can get to 50 per cent battery in just 4 minutes! We experienced this personally and were astounded by the crazy fast speeds. The phone is said to be a rebranded Realme GT Neo 5, a device that was launched in China a couple weeks before Realme unveiled the GT3 at MWC. The price of the Realme GT 3 is set at $649 which converts to ₹53,109. The phone has some really stellar specs including an AMOLED display with 144 Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, and a 50 MP main camera with OIS capabilities. All of this points to the device being a solid high-end phone that will likely be a popular one in India.

We expect the Nothing Phone (2) to launch in India very soon since the Nothing Phone (1) made quite a buzz across the world. Carl Pei himself has confirmed that the Phone (2) will definitely launch in 2023 but he held back on divulging too many specifications of the phone, except one rather big one. At MWC 2023, Nothing confirmed that the Phone (2) would use a Snapdragon 8 series processor. Now, it remains to be seen if this would be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 8+ Gen 1, or 8 Gen 2, but if we were to guess, we assume the phone would rock the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 which is a capable SoC that breezes through most tasks and doesn’t heat as much as the 8 Gen 1 did. Reports also indicate that the Nothing Phone (2) could feature at least 12 GB RAM, virtual RAM, 256 GB storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery. We could also see an AMOLED display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate. Of course, we could expect the ‘Glyph’ interface to make a comeback with this one, but hopefully the somewhat gimmicky feature would be more useful in the future iteration.
