Samsung is gearing up to launch its new foldable device, notably the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.  With the upcoming device, Samsung is said to have solved one of the biggest problems with foldable devices, which is the visible crease in the middle. Samsung Display recently displayed the technology at CES 2026, and the visitors who saw the panel in person reported that the screen looked almost completely flat when opened. Unlike the earlier foldable phones, where the crease was easy to spot, this new panel made it difficult to tell that the display even folds.

Rumours also suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone foldable, which is expected to roll out this year, could also boast the use of the creaseless panels with metal plates from Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 display (Expected)

The new foldable OLED panel was shown side by side with the display used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the difference was clear. The older panel still showed a crease at certain angles, while the new one looked smooth across the fold. Samsung Display claims the panel allows text and images to appear continuous, without distortion in the centre. A special test area at the booth highlighted how the screen remains even when opened fully. In normal lighting, the crease was barely noticeable, which could make foldable phones feel more natural to use.

Reports suggest the new panel uses a metal plate placed under the screen, and this plate is designed in a way that can spread pressure more evenly when the phone is folded and unfolded. Furthermore, the company explained that by reducing stress on one single point, the screen is less likely to develop a deep crease over time. The metal plate is said to be supplied by South Korean company Fine M-Tec. Some early versions of the panel also appear to include a hidden front camera under the display, helping keep the screen clean and uninterrupted.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 specifications (Expected)

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to come with an 8-inch AMOLED panel coupled with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The device is rumoured to reach a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. Furthermore, the device may also boast a 367 PPI. Alongside the foldable display, the device will also feature an outer display of 6.5 inches that is also expected to come with a 120Hz refresh rate. The outer display is also tipped to feature a Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 scratch-resistant glass protection.

In terms of optics, the device may feature a triple camera setup at the rear that includes a 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor and a 10MP telephoto sensor. On the front the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to boast a 10MP camera that would be perfect for selfies and video calls.
