Garmin has announced the Vivofit fitness band in India for Rs. 9,990 and as a Flipkart exclusive.
In this growing market of wearable tech, Garmin has introduced a new fitness centric wrist band, the Vivofit (veevo-fit) in India at a press event in Delhi. The fitness band launched today by Garmin Corporation, which is a unit of Garmin Ltd known for its GPS devices, is aimed at the fitness junkies as well as fitness enthusiasts in India. The device is light (25.5 gms) and curved in itself which fits snuggly inside the different coloured wristbands available for the device. The best part about the device is that it can run without a charge for more than a year. And when the device finally runs out of juice instead of charging it you will have to unscrew the device and pop some new “coin cells” in it. The fitness band also features a small screen which can show you time, date and month, steps you have taken in the day, your step goal of the day, total kilometres you have walked and the calories you have burned in doing so.
The device can sync with your smartphone and your laptop or PC as well. The device uses Garmin’s patented ANT+ technology to sync with your PC or laptop and uses Bluetooth sync to connect with your smartphone. The Vivofit itself stores up to 3 weeks of 24/7 activity data on the device itself between syncs. It also shows a red bar on the display when it senses that you are not active enough. The Garmin Vivofit is always on and even monitors your sleep pattern. It is waterproof and will work upto 50 metres underwater.
At a first glance the device the looks pretty similar to the Sony Smartband we reviewed a month back, but on paper, the lasting battery and a display adds up to be a better option than the Sony Smartband.
