iPhone X effectively priced at Rs 38,999 on Flipkart if you return it within 8 months
HIGHLIGHTS

The iPhone X is being offered at an effective price of Rs 38,999 if you buy it from Flipkart along with its Buyback Guarantee offer. It makes sense if you change phones every 6-8 months.

Flipkart is offering a sweet buyback deal for the iPhone X (review) and other phones that effectively reduces the price of owning a smartphone by a big margin. By paying a token Rs 49, you can get an assured value of 50 percent when you sell the phone after eight months of use. The offer is part of Flipkart’s ‘Super Value Week’ from 18th-24th March.

Under the offer, the Rs 89,000 price of the 64GB iPhone X effective comes down to Rs 38,999 after a flat discount of Rs 5,501. The offer also extends to the Google Pixel 2, the Galaxy S8 Plus, Redmi Note 5 Pro and more.

Considering how most phones become outdated in less than a year, the offer makes sense if you change phones that often. What you should keep in mind however is that the prima facie price of the phone is the same. You still have to pay the entire amount (Rs 89,000) upfront along with the extra Rs 49. What the offer guarantees is that when you intend to sell the phone, you will get 50 percent of the value back in the form of a discount on the next phone. That effectively brings the cost of owning the phone for 8 months by 50 percent.

If you return the iPhone X within six to eight months, the 50 percent buyback value of Rs 44,500 will be applied. In case you return within 9 to 12 months, the buyback value will come down to Rs 36,500 while returning it after 13 to 15 months will get you Rs 27,500. You can also combine the buyback guarantee offer with Flipkart's no-cost EMI offer which makes the phone even more affordable.

Is it an offer worth going for? To be honest, paying a kidney for a phone that you will soon want to replace with another one in less than a year isn’t a very sound financial decision. But if you are bent on being on the bleeding edge of technology and want to continue being on the edge, this seems to be a good offer.

That catch here is that the next phone that you will have to buy to get the buyback amount has to be listed on Flipkart. So if you are planning to jump to a OnePlus 5T from the Redmi Note 5 Pro, you will not be able to. Moreover, you need to have the phone in one piece when you are exchanging along with the original box, charger and other accessories. In case you don’t have the box and other accessories, there will be a reduction of value by Rs 750.

To redeem the buyback guarantee while returning the phone, opt for ‘Buy with exchange’ on the product page and the discount will be applied for the phone. Your older phone will be picked up by the delivery agent who comes to handover the new phone. Furthermore, you can only redeem the value from the same address where the phone was delivered.

Moreover, the price of the phone you purchase next will have to be more than the buyback value. There is also no compulsion to return the phone. In case you decide not to return the phone, the buyback value will be forfeited.

While returning, the Flipkart delivery agent will check if the IMEI number of the phone purchased matches the one you are returning. The phone should switch on without having to connect it to the charger. There shouldn’t be any damage on the screen or the body and screen lock should not be active.Click here to buy.
