20,000 Xiaomi Mi3 units sold in India, another 15,000 coming tomorrow

20,000 Xiaomi Mi3 units sold in India, another 15,000 coming tomorrow
HIGHLIGHTS

The company known as the 'Apple of China' has been the talk of the town since its launch in India a few weeks ago.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has just announced that it is bringing 15,000 units of the popular Mi3 smartphone on August 5. The company confirmed the information in a tweet celebrating Raksha Bandhan. Xiaomi India head Manu Jain has also confirmed to us that it has sold 20,000 smartphones in the country till date. Assuming that the phone again runs out of stock, it would have sold a total of 35,000 smartphones in the country.

The Xiaomi Mi3 went on sale on Flipkart on July 22, with the company allegedly bringing 10,000 units. These went out of stock in 38 minutes 50 seconds and was followed by another flash sale on July 29. The device then sold out in five seconds and the company announced the next sale on August 5.

Interestingly, Xiaomi had not announced the number of units that it was actually putting up for sale till now, a practice that it has been known for in countries like Singapore and China. This is the first time the Chinese manufacturer has actually announced how many units of the smartphone will be available in the flash sale.

Further, for all its popularity, 35,000 units in three weeks is not exactly a very huge number. While the Xiaomi phone has gone out of stock in a flash, the low numbers don't make it very surprising. In comparison, another best selling smartphone in the market, the Moto G, which recently dropped prices, had gone out of stock in 16 hours when it was first launched. Flipkart, which is currently the exclusive seller for both the Mi3 and Moto G, though has confirmed that it has sold one million Moto G units in five months.

That said, the Xiaomi Mi3 is a more powerful and premium smartphone than the Moto G and offers much better specs. Still, simply by number of units sold, Xiaomi seems to be going somewhat slower than many other manufacturers
