TWRP recovery now supports Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Exynos variants
  • The popular recovery tool is one of the prominent recoveries used by Android modders all over the world. Good news is that it is available now for the India variant of the Galaxy S8, S8+ smartphones.

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones have not even made their way into the Indian market yet, but the official TWRP recovery tool for the phones is now available. The recovery tool is currently available for the Exynos variants of the phones, which are available in India, with model numbers G950F and G955F/FD/X/N. This is big news for the modding community, especially since Samsung will be selling the Exynos variant of the device in almost all countries except the US. The TWRP recovery is an important tool which helps in backup and recovery, data deletion, but most importantly helping modders install custom ROMs on the phone.

Although, if you are modding your phone, keep in mind that this procedure will disable Samsung's Knock Security and Samsung Pay. Furthermore, users should know that installation for the TWRP recovery is via Odin software and users must enable “OEM unlock” in the developer options before anything else. As of now, there are only a few ROMS available for the Samsung phones, but we can expect AOSP (stock Android) ROMs to be available soon.

To recap, the Samsung Galaxy S8(₹ 32000 at flipkart)+ and S8 were recently launched in India at Rs. 64,900 and Rs. 57,900 respectively. Both devices feature an Exynos 8895 SoC, which is the first SoC to be manufactured using the 10nm manufacturing process. Samsung claims this provides better performance and makes the device more battery efficient. The main feature however remains the new infinity display, which measures 5.8-inches on the S8 and 6.2-inches on the S8+. it is offered in the signature Samsung AMOLED flavour and is curved on both sides on both phones. The rear camera also sees minor improvements in software, sustaining the 12MP count. However, the front facing camera has now been updated to a 8MP autofocus unit.
