Samsung Galaxy S25 series can have these new AI features, but there’s a catch
Along with the new smartphones, Samsung is set to introduce new AI capabilities for the flagship lineups.
This includes Brief Now, Audio Eraser, Night Video, and more.
Now all of these AI features sound exciting, but there’s a catch.
Samsung will host its Galaxy Unpacked event today where the South Korean tech giant will unveil the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the Galaxy S25 series will take the centre stage at the event, Galaxy AI will also have a lot of limelight. Samsung will showcase the new additions to the Galaxy AI franchise. In my previous story I spoke about the AI features we can expect this time, let’s take a look at them. But read till the end as there’s a catch that you might not have anticipated.
Along with the new smartphones, Samsung is set to introduce new AI capabilities for the flagship lineups. This includes Brief Now, which delivers personalised insights, and Gemini AI, which simplifies complex tasks like finding restaurants and texting friends. The devices will also feature AI-powered Night Video mode for clearer low-light video recording and Audio Eraser, which isolates and adjusts sound sources in video files.
Now all of these AI features sound exciting, but there’s a catch. Leaked marketing materials suggest that Galaxy AI will only be free for Galaxy S25 users until the end of 2025. Starting in 2026, Samsung is expected to charge for access to these features. For this, it can follow a subscription model or offer a one-time purchase option. This marks a departure from last year’s Galaxy S24 series, where Samsung promised free Galaxy AI features for two years.
Now what we don’t know is how much these subscriptions would cost. But it is anticipated that by 2026, all Samsung users—whether on the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S24, or foldable devices—may need to pay to continue using Galaxy AI.
What needs to be seen is how users will react to this change and how many will go for the subscription-based model.
