Update: Poco reached out to us to confirm that the Redmi K20 series will continue selling in India. The company said, ‘’Redmi K20 series will continue to be available in India as it's our number one premium smartphone series.’’ Hence, Weibing's post on Weibo is not regarding India.

When Xiaomi launched the Redmi K30 in December last year, it pulled off a surprise and did not launch the Redmi K30 Pro. Contrary to rumours, Redmi went ahead and announced two variants of the Redmi K30 with different chipsets for 4G and 5G. While the Redmi K30 Pro is now expected to be launched very soon as per the rumours, Xiaomi's Vice President and Redmi Brand's General Manager, Lu Weibing, has announced that the Redmi K20 Pro is being discontinued this month.

Weibing took to Weibo to announce the latest development. He said, (directly translated) “This month, the K20Pro will be completely closed. During this time, I have been thinking about whether to do a curtain-off ceremony for K20Pro?” He also mentioned that the company shipped 5 million units of the Redmi K20 Pro globally. For reference, the smartphone was launched in China late in May last year, which means it hasn’t been in the market for one year yet. However, the discontinuation is also a sign that Xiaomi is making way for the Redmi K30 Pro.

While Weibing has said that the Redmi K20 Pro will be discontinued this month, he didn’t mention the regions it will stop selling in. We don’t know if the discontinuation is limited to China or if it will be implemented simultaneously in other markets as well, including India.

However, Redmi K30 Pro is on its way. The smartphone was spotted on Geekbench listing. It is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, paired with 8GB RAM. The handset could sport a 64MP primary Sony IMX686 sensor.
