OnePlus Open 2 will not launch in 2025, confirms company
OnePlus has now confirmed that fans will have to wait a little longer for the Open 2.
At the same time, the company assured fans that it was not entirely exiting the foldable segment.
OnePlus revealed that the decision to skip a foldable in 2025 has been influenced by Oppo.
The OnePlus Open 2 has been spoken about for a while now with leaks claiming that the launch can happen soon. But it turns out that all of that was nothing but mere speculation. The Chinese smartphone maker has now confirmed that fans will have to wait for a little longer as the OnePlus Open 2 will not be launching in 2025. In a recent community post, OnePlus revealed that it has decided to skip a foldable release this year. At the same time, the company assured fans that it was not entirely exiting the foldable segment.
The announcement comes after the success of the OnePlus Open, which debuted in 2023 as the brand’s first foldable phone. OnePlus later introduced the Open Apex variant in 2024. Citing strategic reasons, OnePlus has decided to hold back its next foldable drop for this year.
Why is OnePlus Open 2 not coming in 2025?
OnePlus revealed that the decision to skip a foldable in 2025 has been influenced by Oppo, its parent company. The latter is gearing up to launch the Oppo Find N5 on February 20. And since Oppo is leading the foldable category this year, OnePlus has decided to align its timeline accordingly.
The company said, “While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As Oppo takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever.”
What to Expect from OnePlus Open 2?
While there is no official launch timeline, the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to borrow features from the Oppo Find N5. Oppo’s upcoming foldable can run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and pack a 5,600mAh battery. It will also sport a titanium frame and a sleek 9.2mm folded design.
