HIGHLIGHTS

The Nokia 9 is tipped to feature a 5.5-inch dual-curved display and come with IP67 water and dust resistance. The Nokia 8 is also expected to come with upgraded hardware.

HMD global will reportedly unveil its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Nokia 9 on January 19. As per a report by the Chinese website MyDrivers, the company is also expected to launch a revamped 2018 edition of the Nokia 8 during a product launch event in China. According to the report, HMD Global will launch both the Nokia 9 and the Nokia 8 (2018) smartphones tailored specifically for the Chinese market. Changes will be reflected in terms of device’s software as the Google Play Store will reportedly be replaced with some custom local counterpart on both the smartphones.

The Nokia 9 is expected to feature a thin-bezel design with unibody metal construction and a glass back. A previous leak tipped at a vertical dual rear camera setup with LED flash and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The smartphone could feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED QHD dual-curved display, similar to what current Samsung flagship phones offer. It could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and sport 6GB of RAM with options for either 64GB or 128GB ROM. The device is also expected to be IP67 water and dust resistant and would ditch the 3.5mm audio jack. The Nokia 9 will reportedly be priced at 3699 Yuan (Rs 37,000 approx directly converted) for the 6GB RAM/64GB ROM variant and 4199 Yuan (Rs 42,000 approx directly converted) for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model.

Not much regarding the specifications of the Nokia 8 (2018) is known yet, but it is expected to get a bump in RAM and internal storage. The smartphone will most likely be launched with Android Oreo. The current Nokia 8 smartphones recently started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update with the November security patch. Android Oreo updates the device with some new features like Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, notification dots, and an enhanced Settings menu.
