MWC 2016: Samsung may launch Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S7 Edge+ together

MWC 2016: Samsung may launch Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S7 Edge+ together
HIGHLIGHTS

It looks like Samsung plans to launch three Galaxy S7 smartphones together at MWC 2016. The devices include the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the S7 Edge+.

If information circulating the Internet is to be believed, then Samsung may launch the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S7 Edge+ simultaneously at MWC 2016. The information comes from Evan Blass (twitter handle: @evleaks) who posted a tweet, which reads, “Honestly surprised by this (though it does explain a lot)”. The tweet is accompanied with an image, which has the names of the three phones next to each other. It is speculated to be an image, which will be used by Samsung for marketing purposes.  It is also speculated that the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the S7 Edge+ will sport the same hardware with the difference being the curved display and maybe the screen size. The Galaxy S7 will have a flat display where as the Galaxy S7 Edge will have the display curving from one side the S7 Edge+ will have the display curving from both sides, just as we have seen with its predecessors.

Coming to the specifications of the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and the S7 Edge+, it is likely that the devices will launch in two variants, one powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC and the other powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 processor. It is also speculated that the phone will come with a 12MP primary camera, with an aperture of f/1.7, aiding low light photography. If other speculations are to be believed, then the Galaxy S7 may come with a 5.1-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display instead of a previously rumoured 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display. Coming to the other specifications, the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S7 Edge+ the smartphones are expected to house 4GB RAM with 32GB and 64GB storage variants. With the iPhone 6 available in 128GB storage variants, we think Samsung will launch a 128GB of built-in storage. We also think the smartphone will support expandable storage up to 200GB via a microSD card.

It is unlikely that Samsung will announce the Galaxy Note 6 at MWC. In the past the company has not launched a Note device at MWC and we don’t think they will break tradition.

Coming back to the edge display, when Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the smartphones had limited use for the edge display. Just like the S-Pen on the Galaxy Note series devices, we think the progress of the utility of the edge display will be gradual. We think the look of the S7 family of smartphones will be reminiscent of their predecessor. Samsung made a drastic design shift when they shifted from plastic to an all metal body with the launch of the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and the S6 Edge+. What do you think Samsung’s next gen smartphones should offer? The ability to make you coffee and breakfast perhaps?
