Microsoft to announce Lumia 950, 950 XL, Surface 4, and Band 2 in October
HIGHLIGHTS

Microsoft hasn’t announced a flagship device in over a year and the Lumia 950 and 950 XL maybe just what it needs to show off the mobile version of Windows 10.

Microsoft has yet to announce any flagship devices this year with their last flagship, the Lumia 930, launched back in April, 2014. While they have launched a couple of entry-level smartphones like the Lumia 540, 640, and 640 XL, a flagship device that shows of the mobile version of Windows 10 is the need of the hour for Microsoft. A pair of  flagship devices called Lumia 950 and 950 XL have been rumored for a while, but sources say that Microsoft will not only unveil these two devices, but a bunch of other devices at an event set to be held in October. The grand event will not only see the unveiling of the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, but also their tablet/laptop hybrid, the Surface Pro 4, Band 2 wearable as well as a mini variant of the Xbox One console.

The Lumia 950 is rumored to have a 5.2-inch QHD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core Soc. It may also have 3Gb of RAM, 32GB internal memory that can be expanded using a microSD card, a 3,000mAh battery, and a 20MP PureView camera. The Lumia 950 XL is rumored to have more-or-less the same specifications save for a larger 5.7-inch screen, a 3,300mAh battery and a Snapdragon 810 SoC. Both these devices are said to support wireless Qi charging and may also have an iris scanner.

While the surface 4 was already rumored to launch in October, there is not much known about the Surface Pro 4 except that it will most probably have Intel Skylake architecture and the same form factor as well as charging mechanism of the Surface 3 to ensure that accessories like the covers are compatible between devices. The Band 2 is an even bigger mystery at this point. It’s very likely that Microsoft will take the feedback from the first Band and incorporate it into the Band 2.

Reports also suggest that Microsoft may also launch the latest versions of the Lumia 7xx and the 8xx series, but that is highly unlikely as launching so many devices will be a very risky move for the Redmond giant.
