HIGHLIGHTS

The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 will be a Flipkart exclusive product, sold through flash sales.

Micromax today announced it latest budget offering, the Canvas Express 2. The device is priced at Rs. 5,999 landing it squarely against the Xiaomi Redmi 2, Moto E and others. The Canvas Xpress 2 will be a Flipkart exclusive product with registrations starting for the phone from today 6pm onwards. It will be sold through flash sales, starting on 4th August 2015 from 2pm onwards.

Despite its price, the budget phone comes with a slightly powerful 1.4GHz octa-core SoC from MediaTek, namely the MT6592M. This SoC was previously seen on Canvas Knight Cameo and the Xolo 8X-1000. It is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC in terms of performance, but it has also been known to be somewhat battery intensive. The phone features 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage. There is microSD card support for 32GB expandable memory, and there is also a 2500mAh battery which the company claims gives out 9.5 hours of talk-time.

It has a 5-inch HD display featuring Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. At the back, the phone has a 13MP camera with a OV sensor, which is packed in a 5 piece largan lens and blue glass filter. This also makes it one of the few phones which feature a 13MP camera under the 6K price point. The phone also gets a 2MP front-facing camera. On the software front, the phone is running Android 4.4.2 Kitkat but Micromax has stated that the phone will be getting the Android Lollipop update soon. It is also a very good looking device, with a matte finish back and the metal finish plastic on the sides.

Micromax Canvas Express 2 will also come with 2 months of 500MB of free 3G data from Vodafone. At the launch, Mr Shubhajit Sen, CMO, Micromax Informatics Ltd, said, “India has over 100 Mn youth population in the age group of 18-25 years who are spending 55% of their time multi-tasking across applications. Catering to this need of the mass Indian youth, we are today proud to announce the launch of Micromax Canvas Xpress 2- the most affordable Octa Core smartphone in the market.
