Micromax and Airtel team up to launch Micromax Bharat Go with Android Oreo (Go Edition) in India
HIGHLIGHTS

The Micromax Bharat Go has a market operating price of Rs 4,399, but will be available with a cashback of Rs 2,000 as part of Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative.

After months of rumours and even making an appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2018, the Micromax Bharat Go running Google’s Android Oreo (Go Edition) operating system has finally launched in India. The low-cost smartphone from the Indian manufacturer comes with 1GB DDR3 RAM and will be available at a market operating price of Rs 4,399, but buyers can avail an extra Rs 2,000 cashback on the purchase of the device under Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative which aims at making feature phone users upgrade to low-cost smartphones.

The Micromax Bharat Go is the third Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone to launch in India after the Nokia 1 and Lava Z50. Android Oreo (Go Edition) is meant for bringing the pure Android experience to low-end devices with upto 1GB RAM. The OS is optimised to run smoothly with low-grade specs, including entry level processors.

The Micromax Bharat Go features a 4.5-inch display and brings dual-SIM VoLTE support. It runs on an unnamed MediaTek quad-core processor which could be the MediaTek 6737M also found on the Nokia 1 and Lava Z50. As mentioned before, the phone gets 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. It sports a 5MP rear and 5MP front camera setup which is pretty basic from what we saw of the device at MWC 2018. The entire package is powered by a 2,000mAh battery and the phone comes with OTG support for storage expansion.

Since the Bharat Go uses Android Go, it comes bundled with Google’s Go edition apps which have also been optimised to take up less space and load faster. Android Oreo (Go Edition) apps include – Maps Go, Google Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Files Go as well as an optimised Play Store which highlights all these apps.

Commenting on the launch, Shubhodip Pal, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Micromax said, “Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a compelling proposition for the mobile first economy like India. We are proud to announce the launch of Bharat Go, a smartphone powered by the Android Oreo (Go Edition) today.”

Vani Venkatesh, Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel said, “Along with Google, we look forward to collaborating with device manufacturers to leverage the power of Android Go and bring highly affordable smartphone options to the market."
