HTC U12+ may be only the flagship smartphone from HTC in 2018
HTC might only launch one high-end smartphone in 2018 in order to streamline its portfolio for the year.
It seems like the HTC may only launch one high-end smartphone in 2018. According to a report by HTC Source, the HTC U12+ will be the only flagship smartphone for the company this year. Sources told the website that the reason for such a move is because the company is planning to streamline its portfolio for the year. The report also states that the company doesn't plan on releasing a standard HTC U12. Further, the same source also states that there will be no devices in the U Play or U Ultra series. Instead, the company may launch an HTC U12 Life, which will be priced a lot less than the flagship device.
The same report had also earlier claimed that the device would be aggressively priced and would cost less than the Samsung Galaxy S9. However, it has since removed the speculation about the pricing after talking to a second source.
Leaked images of the HTC U12+ suggest that the phone might feature a near bezel-less design. It is also tipped to feature a quad-camera setup with dual-cameras on both sides of the device. The phone may feature a 6-inch LCD panel with a WQHD+ resolution and is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. It is also expected to offer 6GB of RAM along with options for either 64GB or 128GB of storage. Previous reports have suggested that the HTC U12+ may feature two 8MP cameras on the front, while at the back, the phone might be equipped with a 16MP + 12MP camera configuration.
HTC recently launched two new phones called the Desire 12 and Desire 12 Plus in Europe. Both devices feature 18:9 display aspect ratios, but beyond that, the devices are quite different from each other. The Desire 12 features a 5.5-inch HD+ display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6739 SoC. At the back is a single 13MP cameras, while at the front is a 5MP unit. The HTC Desire 12 Plus sports a 6-inch HD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC. At the back is a dual-camera setup with 13MP + 2MP units, while at the front is an 8MP sensor.
