Google confirms fix for Android 16 bug that’s freezing Pixel navigation

The Android 16 stable update was rolled out to select Pixel devices last week. The latest update introduced a range of new features, including live status updates on the lock screen, clearer calls for users with hearing aids, advanced protection, and more. While these features are interesting, what users don’t like is an unwelcome navigation bug that’s making the phone unresponsive. Several Pixel phone users have reported the issue on X (formerly Twitter). The bug rendered the navigation buttons and gestures unresponsive, making users frustrated.

However, users will not have to wait longer for the fixes to arrive. According to Android Police founder Artem Russakovskii, Google has confirmed that they are developing a patch for the bug. The tech giant has confirmed that the navigation bug has now been internally fixed; however, it is yet to be released to the public. The fix will reportedly be rolled out in the next update.

Though there are no details on when the next Android 16 update will arrive, it is expected to be rolled out next month alongside the July security patch. This means users will have to wait another two weeks for the fix to arrive.

What is the Android 16 navigation bug?

Pixel users have shared that after updating to the Android 16 update, their Pixel phones’ basic navigation becomes unresponsive when attempting to return to an app or swipe home. Some users have even complained that the phone’s home button stops working for up to 30 seconds.

What to do?

Until the tech giant releases the fix for the Android 16 bugs, there are some workarounds you can use to make your phone usable. Users can switch to a different launcher app or clear the Pixel launcher’s data and cache. Rebooting the device may also resolve the issue for some users.
