Google acquires Polar to improve Google+ on mobile
HIGHLIGHTS

Google acquires mobile expert Luke Wroblewski and his team to help improve its Google+ social network.

In an effort to ramp up Google+, Google has acquired Polar a company that specializes in creating online polls to get "instant opinions on anything." The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed yet.

As a part of the deal Luke Wroblewski, Polar’s founder, and his team will be joining Google. Dave Besbris, Google’s vice president of engineering for Google Plus, stated that the team will be working on Google+ for mobile. Three years back Mr. Wroblewski published a book called “Mobile First,” which “makes the case for why websites and applications should increasingly be designed for mobile first” and outlines ways for web design teams to move from designing apps for desktops and laptops to designing them for mobile phones.

Dave Besbris, Google’s vice president of engineering for Google Plus, on his own Google Plus page, “I’m thrilled to welcome Luke Wroblewski and the talented Polar team to Google! They’ll be joining our team and helping us make G+ even more awesome.”

Google has been trying to generate interest in its not so popular Google+ social network. Polar will help Google learn more about its users, which, will help the Internet giant to sell more ads and push more of its services to advertisers. Started two years back, Polar has done over half a billion polls in the last 8 months and has over 1.1 mllion unique voters in September.

Google recently released major updates to its Chrome and Google apps on Android. The update included a new feature called Auto Awesome Stories that allows users to combine pictures, videos and places visited into a travelogue. Also Read: Google plans a separate photo service sans Google+
