Based on Android Lollipop v5.1.1, the update introduces a revamped launcher, LiveDisplay feature, enhanced media codec support and advanced thermal control

After a considerable delay, YU has finally started pushing the Cyanogen OS 12.1 OTA update to its Yureka and Yureka Plus devices. The Android Lollipop v5.1.1 update will be rolled out in phases and users can expect to receive it over the next couple of weeks.

YU announced the Lollipop v5.1.1 based Cyanogen OS 12.1 update back in June this year. After nearly a five month delay and three beta builds, the update is finally available to Yu Yureka and Yureka Plus users. “We understand it took longer than usual but we wanted to put up something concrete and ensure its worth your wait. Apologies for a longer wait time,” YU CEO Rahul Sharma said in a community forum post. “The update will be rolled out in phases over the coming two weeks, everyone will get notification for the same,” he further said. The software update bears the build number YOG4PAS3JM.

The update brings with it a host of new features and improvements. The launcher has been redesigned, and has been optimised for one-handed use. The Cyanogen OS 12.1 update introduces the LiveDisplay feature which adjusts the screen based on the environment and the time of the day. It automatically adapts the brightness and the colour temperature of the display. Users will also be able to use the Boxer-powered Cyanogen Email, where the calendar has been tightly integrated with the email client. The AudioFX interface has been updated to make it consistent across devices. Apart from that, the update adds support for more codecs to play a wider variety of audio and video media. Sharma has claimed that Cyanogen OS 12.1 will come with enhanced CPU thermal control features, designed to improve the overall performance of the devices.

YU Yureka and Yureka Plus owners will be notified of the update in the next two weeks. Users can also manually check for the update by going into the Settings menu>> About phone>> System updates. According to Sharma, the YU Yuphoria is next in line to receive the Cyanogen OS 12.1 update.
