Blackberry Ghost and Ghost Pro renamed to Evolve and Evolve X, still no release date
The Blackberry Ghost and Ghost Pro will be launched as the Evolve and the Evolve X in the Indian market.
Optiemus, the Blackberry licensee from India is expected to launch two new Blackberry phones this year. The phones were rumoured to be called Blackberry Ghost and Ghost Pro. However, a new report now states those were the codenames for the phones under development. The phone will be officially named Evolve and Evolve X respectively.
The report comes from renowned leakster Evan Blass who first leaked the Ghost and the Ghost Pro as Blackberry’s first 18:9 display phones. The phone will also be powered by a Snapdragon chipset. Blass leaked that the Evolve (Ghost) will pack a 4,000mAh battery and dual camees at the back that will offer optical zoom and low-light photography.
However, no other details of the phones are known right now and there is no release date as well. Hardip Singh, Executive Director at Optiemus, had told us the phones would launch in Q2 2018. We are already in Q3 and while the Blackberry Evolve or the Evolve X haven’t launched, the Blackberry Key2 did. Another Blackberry licensee TCL launched the successor to the QWERTY keyboard-touting Blackberry KeyOne in China last month.
The Blackberry Key2 also sports a physical QWERTY keyboard as well. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with 6GB RAM. It launched in two storage variants — 64GB and 128GB with the option for expandable storage up to 256GB. On top is a 4.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display. At the back is a 12-megapixel dual camera unit with portrait mode and 2X optical zoom. On the front is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies. Out of the box, the phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with a near-stock Android UI. There are Blackberry-centric customisations like the DTEK security app and keyboard gestures. The space bar doubles as a fingerprint sensor.
