Realising that he had fallen victim to a scam, he immediately reported the incident on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and later filed an official complaint at the Kumaraswamy Police Station in Bengaluru. The police have now started an investigation to trace where the order was tampered with.
Amazon India responded to the complaint. The company refunded the entire amount to Premanand and assured full cooperation with the police in their ongoing investigation.
While it’s a relief that the victim received his money back, the incident has raised serious concerns about the growing sophistication of online delivery scams. Earlier, such fake deliveries could be spotted easily because of poor packaging or noticeable differences in weight. But in this case, as Premanand mentioned, the scammer had placed a tile that weighed almost the same as the phone, making it nearly impossible to suspect anything until the box was opened.
