Amber Update for Lumia 920 rolling out now
HIGHLIGHTS

If you have been salivating at the thoughts of having the Amber Update on your Lumia 920, well, wait no more as the update is finally starting to roll out.

A week ago, we managed to get our hands on the Amber update for the Lumia 920, but the update wasn’t rolled out to the mass market. Rumours suggested that Nokia was going to officially roll out the update sometime August, and they have stayed true to their word. Nokia hasn’t waited too long to flip the switch on what has got to be the most awaited update for its phones yet. That’s right folks, the Amber Update for the Lumia 920 has started rolling out.

In case you’re not up to speed on the Amber Update, it is the value addition to the GDR2 update from Microsoft. The “Amber” part of the update is exclusive to Nokia devices, so if you’ve got a Windows Phone 8 device which isn’t made by Nokia, then all you get is the Microsoft branded GDR2 update.

If your Lumia 920 hasn’t popped up the “Update Available” message yet, then we suggest you go into Settings and click on Phone Updates to force the phone to check for updates. Do make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi as the update is over 1.2 GB in size. Don’t want your phone bill to blow up now do you?

In case you’re wondering what the Amber Update will do to your Lumia 920, you can read all about the juicy goodness right here. In case you are not able to find the update in your settings, don’t panic. It is completely normal for the update to not show up for everyone right away as the servers tend to get overloaded.

In case you own one of th3e other four Nokia Lumia devices (520,620,720 or 82) and are wondering about the status of the Amber Update for your specific device, well, here it is. The Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 720 will be getting the Amber Update very soon, as the package is already cued and waiting for approval. Unfortunately, the Lumia 820 and Lumia 620 owners will have a longer wait ahead of them as the status of the update for the two phones is still listed as “coming soon,” and before you wonder yes, this is an India specific update. Nokia has been kind enough to setup a status page for the Amber Update, where you can check whether the update for your specific phone (and country) is being rolled out yet or not.
