Tata launches India’s first 3G-embedded netbook

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement of MTNL and Dell tying up to offer a 3G netbook, Tata Teleservices has stolen the spotlight by announcing India’s first 3G-embedded netbook – and it costs just Rs. 23,999!

 

Olive Communication and Tata Teleservices unveiled the first netbook – the Olive V-X107H – in India to come with 3G services built in, thus not requiring an external USB modem or any such device to connect to the Internet. 

 

The netbook is being exclusively offered on India’s best wireless broadband service, Photon Plus by Tata Teleservices Limited. Available through Tata Indicom outlets, the device will cost Rs. 23,999 and come bundled with select Photon Plus packages, and can also be purchased using easy payment schemes.

The V-X107H runs on a Qualcomm chipset and is powered by a 1.6GHz processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. It sports a 10.1-inch TFT screen with a native resolution of 1024×600 pixels and comes with a 160GB hard disk. Usual netbook features make an appearance, including audio out, mic in, 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, VGA out, memory card reader, etc.

 

Like with MTNL, Tata Teleservices too has a Fair Usage Policy on its Photon Plus tariff plans. But if this is going to be your secondary PC – which most netbooks are – then we guess it’s not too bad a deal for the price.
