OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT update has received a lot of attention online for improving user interactions with chatbots by combining voice and text into a single experience. The new feature now allows users to communicate with ChatGPT while simultaneously viewing responses, images, maps, and previous messages in real time, eliminating the need to switch between two separate modes.

While it is still limited to chatbots, the new move is viewed as a preview of what Apple will deliver with its upcoming Siri overhaul under Apple Intelligence. For those unfamiliar, Apple has added new text-based features such as email summaries, but it still faces the challenge of fully integrating voice and visual outputs into a single unified experience. According to the reports, the next step for voice assistants is integration, which allows users to issue voice commands and receive spoken responses in addition to text and images.

The report suggests that the new mode still has some imperfections. Users have reported that the assistant claims to display visuals, such as maps, but fails to render them. Still, analysts say the update shows the level of fluid, multimodal interaction that users will expect from the new Siri.

To meet these expectations, Apple will need to provide more than just conversational responses. The updated Siri is expected to perform agent-like tasks within apps, such as booking flights or managing schedules, through user-installed applications.

If the reports are correct, the newly revamped Siri may be released with the iOS 26.4 update next year. The leaks also indicate that major refinements to new Siri are planned for iOS 27, which will be announced at WWDC 26.
