The sky is gearing up for the last solar eclipse of 2025, set to grace the sky on September 21. Unlike a total solar eclipse, this one will be partial, where the Moon only covers a section of the Sun, creating a glowing crescent-shaped solar disc. While the event will offer breathtaking views for astronomy fans across the globe, India won’t get a direct glimpse since the eclipse coincides with nighttime hours here.
SurveyNotably, the entire celestial show will last over four hours, with peak visibility in the Southern Hemisphere, including Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Antarctica. Here’s the date and time of the eclipse, where it will be visible, and all other details we know.
Solar eclipse 2025: Visibility in India and other parts of the world
The September eclipse will primarily favour the Southern Hemisphere, stretching across Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, and several Pacific Island nations.
New Zealand: Major cities will enjoy stunning views, with coverage varying from 60% in Auckland to nearly 72% in Invercargill. Christchurch and Wellington will also see over 65% coverage.
Australia & Pacific Islands: Countries like Tonga (32%), Fiji (27%), and the Cook Islands (23%) will witness partial coverage, though not as dramatic as New Zealand.
Antarctica: Researchers and explorers stationed here will be treated to the most spectacular sights – 72% coverage at Mario Zucchelli Station and nearly 69% at McMurdo Station.
For these regions, the eclipse will unfold in broad daylight, making conditions perfect for observation.
However, in India, the eclipse coincides with nighttime hours (11:00 PM to 3:23 AM IST), making it completely invisible across the country. So, sky enthusiasts here will have to rely on online live streams and international broadcasts to experience the event.
