According to tipster Tarun Vats, an early build of the Android 16-based One UI 8.5 was recently discovered on Samsung’s internal testing servers. The firmware, with build versions S926BXXU9DYIA/ S926BOXM9DYIA/ S926BXXU9DYIA, appears to be intended for the Galaxy S24+’s international variant (model number SM-S926B).

This is not the first sign that Samsung is moving ahead with the 8.5 update. Previous sightings hinted at similar test builds for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series (SM-S938B) and the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While the listings confirm active development, they do not reveal when the firmware will be made available to the public.

Speaking of changes, One UI 8.5 may bring some significant improvements. According to reports, the Phone app will undergo a major redesign. The Dialler, Call Logs, and Contacts tabs may appear in pill-shaped capsules near the bottom of the screen. Samsung may also offer Direct Voicemail, which works similarly to Apple’s Live Voicemail in that it provides live transcriptions of messages. The Samsung Studio app is also expected to receive a refreshed navigation bar, as well as a new Stories tab alongside the existing Pictures, Albums, and Search options.

It must be noted that Samsung has not officially announced the One UI 8.5 update release schedule. However, the test builds hint that Samsung is planning a mid-cycle software update with an enhanced focus on user experience and design refinements.
