Holi is known for its vibrant colors, joyful celebration and unforgettable moments. Our phones are like our best friend especially in the festival season, holding everything from memories in photos and videos to work-related information. If you have celebrated the festival with your loved ones, and while playing the colors and the water, your phone is drenched in water or your loved one’s phone is drenched in the water. But before you give up hope, read these few tips that can help you to save your phone and the memories and work it holds in it.

  1. Turn off your phone and remove external components. Powering off the wet phone and drying it with a dry towel prevents the electrical shorts and minimizes the risk of damage.
  2. Get a silica gel packet: Silica gel is a popular desiccant due to its high surface area and ability to absorb large amounts of water vapor. Place your phone and several silica gel packets along in a container or bag. Leave it for at least 24-48 hours. No need to think about where you’ll get this. You can just blinkit.
  3. Cool, dry airflow: A cool airflow can help evaporate the moisture of your phone as it provides some air circulation. Place your phone in front of a fan on a low setting and ensure the fan is not blowing hot air.
  4. Aerosol air duster: This product is usually used for cleaning or dusting electronic equipment and other sensitive devices. To blow the water out of your smartphone, avoid using a hot blow dryer because the heat can cause damage to your phone screen. Again, no need to think about where you’ll get this.

Do note that you should not try out the rice method. It is not recommended for drying the smartphone. It may cause some damage to your phone because of the dust and dry starch. Rice could also lodge in your phone’s charging port or headphone jack, which can be extremely difficult to dislodge as the rice swells when exposed to liquid.
