GPT 5 vs GPT 4: From customisation to personalisation, here’s everything new

After a lot of rumours and leaks, OpenAI has officially launched GPT 5, which is said to be the company’s most advanced AI model yet. This model will replace all previous versions, including the GPT 4o series. According to OpenAI, GPT 5 will feel like chatting with a friend with PhD-level intelligence, offering answers that are more accurate and dependable than before.

While addressing the media, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman claimed, “GPT 5 is the first time that it really feels like you are talking to an expert in any topic. It reminds me of when the iPhone went from those giant old pixels to the Retina Display.”

Let’s take a closer look at everything new and the improvements it brings.

GPT 5 features

One of the biggest changes with GPT 5 is its unified system. Unlike GPT 4, where users had to choose between different model versions for various tasks, GPT 5 automatically decides the best approach for your query. As OpenAI explains, “GPT 5 is a unified system with a smart, efficient model that answers most questions, a deeper reasoning model for harder problems, and a real-time outer that quickly decides which to use based on conversation type, complexity, tool needs, and your explicit intent.” This means users simply type their prompt, and GPT 5 handles the rest.

OpenAI has worked to reduce hallucinations in GPT-5, making it more accurate than its predecessor. Personalisation takes centre stage in GPT 5. Users can now choose custom colours for their chat interface, with some exclusive options available for paid users. The model also introduces four preset personalities: Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd.

Integration is another big upgrade. Starting next week, Pro users will be able to connect GPT 5 with Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Gmail for a more seamless workflow. These features will roll out to other tiers later.

Voice interactions are getting an upgrade too. Both free and paid users will enjoy higher voice usage limits compared to GPT 4, and the voice feature will now be available in custom GPTs. However, the Standard Voice Mode will be phased out within the next 30 days.

OpenAI also claims that GPT-5 is their most powerful coding model yet. “It shows particular improvements in complex front‑end generation and debugging larger repositories. It can often create beautiful and responsive websites, apps, and games with an eye for aesthetic sensibility in just one prompt, intuitively and tastefully turning ideas into reality,” the company said.

With GPT 5, it’s clear that OpenAI isn’t just focusing on making its AI smarter, but also more intuitive and personal for everyday users.
