Claude down? Anthropic confirms partial outage as users face issues with Chat

Claude down: Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude faced a sudden outage in India on Wednesday, leaving many users unable to access its chat and coding tools. Over 400 reports were logged on Downdetector, with about 50 per cent of users facing issues with chat and 30 per cent reporting problems with Claude Code. Mobile users were affected the most. The disruption was seen across regions, including India, and appeared quickly rather than building gradually. Many users reported errors and missing responses, interrupting daily tasks like writing, coding, and communication. The status page said the issue is under investigation. This incident comes just days after a previous outage, raising concerns about the platform’s reliability and stability.

As per Downdetector, an internet-based platform which monitors outages, over 400 reports have been filed till now. There was a peak in complaints around 12.34 PM Indian Standard Time when the reports hit a high of 490.
Approximately 50 per cent of users complained about facing problems while using the Claude chat, while 30 per cent of users complained about problems related to Claude Code.
Mobile users reported the most issues, with about 14 per cent of those reporting outages using the Claude app. The Claude status page states that the issue is currently under investigation.

The Claude status page states that the issue is currently under investigation. However, Claude is yet to officially provide the reason behind the outage, leaving users waiting for clarity on what caused the disruption and when services will fully return to normal.
How social media reacted
Users quickly turned to the social media platform X to check if the AI platform is down. While at that, many of them also vent out their frustration. As one user said, ‘Okay, Claude is down.’ Guess I’m back doing some bare-metal coding like it’s 2024 :sigh:, while another pointed out, ‘The irony of Claude code being down’, referring to the outage the AI platform had earlier this month. One of the X users also expressed annoyance as he said, ‘Ughhh, Claude is down again…’. These were just a few of the posts, as social media has gone wild with such posts.
