Just ahead of Apple’s smart home event on Tuesday, we may finally have a name for the long-awaited smart home hub. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device is expected to be called HomeView. It is likely to feature a display and an A18 chip, with Siri serving as the main way to control connected devices. Apple is also reportedly preparing an updated HomePod mini and a new Apple TV to create a connected experience across the house.
SurveyThe HomeView is expected to come in two designs. One version will sit on a countertop and feature a metal speaker base, while the other will be designed for wall mounting. The countertop model may be available in space grey, silver, starlight and pink. The wall-mounted version is reportedly expected to come in space grey and silver colour options.
The HomeView may not support a wide range of apps. Instead, it is expected to run a limited selection of Apple’s applications and focus on controlling smart home devices. Users may be able to manage compatible accessories through Siri, the Home app and other Apple devices.
“As for the HomeView name, the use of ‘view’ reflects how the device is meant to be used: as a display that people look at and control primarily with their voice,” Gurman explained.
Apple is also reportedly working on an updated HomePod mini with an S10 chip and a new Apple TV powered by an A19 chip. The HomePod mini could arrive in pink, white, green, blue and midnight colour options. Apple has also tested built-in microphones for the Apple TV, which could let users give Siri voice commands without using the remote or a connected HomePod. A redesigned remote with a built-in speaker is also reportedly under consideration.

Beyond these devices, Apple is said to be working with LG Electronics to develop smart home accessories. The planned lineup reportedly includes security cameras, a smart doorbell, a door lock, a thermostat and a temperature sensor. These products could form part of what Apple calls the “Apple Home Collection”. The LG-made accessories are not expected to arrive until later this year at the earliest.
According to Gurman, the HomePod mini and Apple TV could reach stores on October 30, while the HomeView may arrive around mid-November. Apple is yet to officially confirm these details.
