Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, which the company describes as a new way for teams to work with its AI assistant. The tool aims to act more like a digital teammate than a traditional chatbot. Instead of handling only one person’s requests, Claude Tag can work with entire teams, remember ongoing projects, and even take initiative when needed. “We see Claude Tag as the beginning of an evolution of Claude Code: it makes the model even more proactive, and it works better with a full team. Tagging @Claude is now one of the main ways we get things done at Anthropic,” the company said. Claude Tag is available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers and runs on Claude Opus 4.8. Below is everything you need to know about Claude Tag.

Claude Tag: How it works and what it can do
Claude Tag works inside Slack, where users can tag @Claude with a request. The AI then breaks the task into stages, uses the tools available to it, and posts the completed work in a thread.
Anthropic says one of the biggest advantages is that “@Claude is multiplayer.” A single Claude operates within a channel. Everyone can see what it is working on and continue conversations from where others left off.
The company also says “@Claude learns over time.” As it follows conversations in a channel, it gets a better understanding of ongoing projects and team workflows. It can also learn from other approved channels and data sources. Note that it does not report information from private channels.

Another feature is that “@Claude takes initiative.” When ambient behaviour is enabled, the AI can proactively share updates, flag useful information, and follow up on unresolved tasks. Anthropic further notes that “@Claude works asynchronously,” which means it can continue working on assignments over hours or even days without constant supervision.

For organisations, administrators can control exactly which tools and data Claude can access. Different Claude setups can be created separately. Admins can also monitor activity logs and set spending limits for both organisations and individual channels.
Do note that Claude Tag replaces the existing Claude in Slack app.
