Anthropic has introduced Claude Haiku 5.5, its latest small AI model aimed at fast and affordable tasks. The company says the new model is its “cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model” so far. Anthropic also says the model can be used as a subagent for coding tasks alongside its larger Claude models. The company further claims Haiku 5.5 beats GPT 6 Luna on several benchmarks, including some coding, reasoning and computer-use tests. Keep reading for the details.

Claude Haiku 5.5 AI model

A key focus of Haiku 5.5 is its lower running cost. Anthropic says the model costs around 75 per cent less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average. This could make it useful for companies that need to process a large number of AI requests.

The company has also added an adjustable effort setting. Users can choose how much the model should focus on intelligence or lower costs. Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 offers particularly good value for prompts of up to 100,000 tokens.

On the benchmarks shared by Anthropic, Haiku 5.5 scored 46.4 per cent on FrontierCode 1.1, compared with 42.4 per cent for GPT 6 Luna. On OSWorld, which tests computer-use abilities, Haiku 5.5 achieved 72.4 per cent, while GPT 6 Luna scored 48.9 per cent.

Anthropic has also reduced the price of Sonnet 5.5 cache reads. The company says this makes Sonnet 5.5 around 20 per cent cheaper for most agentic workloads.

Availability

Claude Haiku 5.5 is available now across all platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. On the Claude Platform, developers can start using the model through claude-haiku-5-5.
