AMD Ryzen leak hints at strong performance, low prices – Competition for Intel?
The prices for quad core AMD Ryzen processors may start as low as $129 (Rs. 8,700 approx) and go up to $499 (Rs. 33,500 approx)
AMD is slated to launch its new Ryzen processors next month, but an early leak sheds light on the pricing and performance scores of the upcoming processor lineup. If these screenshots are indeed true, the new AMD Ryzen lineup will commence with the quad-core AMD Ryzen 3 1100, at a price of $129 (Rs. 8,700 approx). The top-of-the-range processor, AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, will likely be priced at $499 (Rs. 33,500 approx).
In terms of performance, the Ryzen processor clocked at 3.4GHz was compared to the current crop of Intel K series processors. Going by the base clock speeds, the processor codenamed AMD Ryzen ZD3406BAM88F4_38/34_Y is likely to be the Ryzen 7 1700X, which is ranked below the flagship Ryzen CPU in the lineup. The test CPU is still not a production model, and turbo mode was disabled for the tests. The processor is being tested on an entry-level MSI A320 AM4 motherboard, and DDR4 memory (17-17-17-39 2T) clocked at 2400MHz.
While the test scores for all Intel processors is not available, one of the leaked images do showcase that the Intel Core i7-6700K is paired with an ASUS X99-AII motherboard, a high-end motherboard, along with 16GB of G-Skill DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200 MHz (16-18-18-38).
This suggests that the upcoming AMD Ryzen lineup can be quite powerful, and will be competing directly with the Intel K-series processors. Further, compared to the current pricing of an Intel i7-6870K at Rs. 52,000, the upcoming Ryzen 7 1700X seems like a good deal if it is indeed priced at $389 (Rs. 26,100 approx). We cannot wait to hear more about the new AMD Ryzen lineup!
