Amazon reportedly working on AR smart glasses to rival Meta
Consumer-focused Jayhawk glasses to feature camera, speakers, and a full-colour display.
Driver-focused Amelia glasses may launch in 2026 with navigation and package info built in.
Both models will use AR display tech from Chinese supplier Meta-Bounds.
Amazon is reportedly preparing to enter the augmented reality wearables market, with reports indicating that the company is developing two pairs of AR smart glasses. According to the news report, the consumer-focused model is internally codenamed “Jayhawk” and will include a built-in camera, microphones, speakers, and a full-color display visible in one eye. According to the report, the design is expected to be sleeker and less bulky than most AR glasses currently available.
SurveyAccording to the report, Amazon is also working on a second pair designed specifically for its delivery partners, in addition to the consumer version. The project is codenamed Amelia, and the glasses will reportedly display navigation and package information directly on the lens, reducing drivers’ reliance on smartphones. These driver-focused glasses could arrive in India as early as the second quarter of 2026, with Amazon initially producing around 100,000 units.
All of these models are said to use AR display technology from Chinese supplier Meta Bounds, though the delivery glasses may be more durable for daily field use. Meanwhile, the consumer variant is positioned as a direct competitor to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and Google’s upcoming XR prototypes.
It should be noted that pricing details are currently unknown, and sources suggest Amazon plans a broader release between late 2026 and early 2027. If this timeline is correct, the company may soon enter a new, crowded space, thanks to Meta and other companies, who are laying the groundwork for another battle between tech titans in the wearables arena.
On the other hand, Meta has also partnered with EssilorLuxottica’s Oakley this year on AI powered smart glasses after the success of Meta Ray Ban Meta line. We may get to see a few more products in the coming months, however, not confirmed.
