Amazon Prime Video to introduce ads in India from June 17: Check new ad free plan price and details

After introducing the limited ads strategy in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and several European regions, Amazon Prime has announced that it will begin showing limited ads between films and shows in India on June 17. Speaking of the reason, the company stated in an email to subscribers that this move will help the platform invest in premium content.

If you are an existing Amazon Prime subscriber, the company has stated that there will be no change in your current membership price, and you do not need to do anything. Those looking for a new plan with an uninterrupted streaming experience can opt for a new ad-free plan, which is available as an add-on for Rs 129 per month or Rs 699 annually.

“Starting June 17th, 2025, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time,” the company stated.

However, Amazon has promised fewer ads. Notably, the ads will only affect regular Prime subscribers, leaving Prime Lite users, who already receive ad-supported content, unaffected.

“We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than TV channels and other streaming services. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership,” it added.

For the unversed, the Amazon Prime Video subscriptions in India are Rs 299 for a single month, Rs 599 for three months, and Rs 1,499 for a year. These include Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Gaming, and other benefits like fast delivery and exclusive discounts on Amazon. However, to get an ad-free experience, you will have to pay more and get the above-mentioned add-on.

“We will also offer a new ad-free add-on option for an additional Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month that you can sign up for starting on June 17th, 2025,” the company added.
