This company wants you to play Pickleball from the comfort of your home: Here’s how they’re doing it

Pickleball has been one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. If you’re on social media, I’m sure you’ve heard about it or, well, even played it. But given that it’s still a growing sport in the country, court time isn’t always easy to come by. Finding courts is hard; the equipment is expensive while the demand skyrockets, and that’s where a Bengaluru-based sports tech startup, MetaShot, comes in, hoping to fix that problem. They’re doing so by using a motion-sensing smart paddle and a brand new game title built for their in-house gaming console. Let’s take a look at how they plan on doing so.

Metashot’s gaming console
If you’ve heard about MetaShot, it is likely because of their popularity due to the cricket game that launched a few months back. They’ve gained a lot of popularity ever since, and another reason for it is that they’ve also had a recent appearance on Shark Tank India.
While the company continues to work on their cricket game, they’ve now partnered up with Yudiz Solutions, a game development company, to launch what it claims is the world’s first smart pickleball game. They’re targeting it as an exclusive title built for MetaShot’s motion gaming console.
How it actually works
In case you’re wondering how the sport would actually work, it’s pretty simple, actually. Players need to use a smart paddle that has motion tracking built in, and their real-life swings control the game in real time. Just like their cricket game, the actual human movement would be recorded as the input. Due to this, timing, swing direction, and reaction speed are all going to matter in the same way they would on a real court.
This is also the first time MetaShot has opened its proprietary motion gaming platform and SDKs to an external game development studio. Until now, the company has built everything in-house. As per the company, Pickleball marks the beginning of a platform ecosystem for third-party developers and studios.
MetaShot Pickleball release date
As of now, the company hasn’t announced an exact launch date yet. However, they have given a release time. The smart pickleball game is set to launch in the US in the third quarter of this financial year, with the India release date yet to be announced.
Speaking on the announcement, Prince Thomas, CEO of Metashot, said, “Pickleball felt like the perfect category to begin with given its global momentum and community-driven appeal. This is the start of MetaShot becoming a larger platform for sports gaming innovation,”
