PlayStation Plus price hike to take effect
The new prices for the PlayStation Plus subscription are supposed to take effect from today worldwide. On May 18, via a post on X, the company had announced its decision to hike PS Plus subscription prices. It is to be noted here that only the base tier, PlayStation Plus Essential, has seen a price hike. Moreover, the price hike is for 1 month and 3 month plan in this tier. The pricing for the 6 month tier remains as is.

Announcing the change, PlayStation’s post read, “Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions. This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses.”
What this means for Indian users
Now PlayStation’s post didn’t really mention anything about India prices. But it did indirectly confirm India being affected by the price change if you look closely. The line- ‘This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses‘ – suggests that Indian users will indeed be impacted from this change. And well, it is May 20 today, which means that the prices should already be in effect.
Going by PlayStation’s post that is mentioned above, the new pricing for the 1-month PS Plus Essential Subscription should be around Rs 1,000 ($10.99) and around Rs 2,700 (USD 27.99) for 3 months.
However, at the time of writing this story, the new prices are not in effect yet. The 1 month subscription still costs Rs 499 and for 3 months, the costs Rs 1,199.

Now does this mean that prices are not increasing in India? Not really. It can mean that prices might increase later in the day, or even tomorrow. Keep watching this space for more updates.
