PS4 gamers who want to record their gameplay videos will soon be able to rip their videos via the HDMI output.
Sony Playstation 4 users will soon be able to save screenshots and video clips to a USB drive, and also capture of game videos via HDMI. Sony will bring the new changes it its upcoming update for PS4. Gamers who want to save their gameplay videos would be able to save videos as the new update will introduce an HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) off option.
Sony had earlier promised that it would introduce the HDCP off option in November last year but failed to do so. PS3 users were able to capture videos easily because the console could output through component cables with HDCP in place. PS4 on the other hand, outputs through HDMI only which meant that its users could capture video only via the share button on the controller and then upload it to a social media site or by streaming a session which could send the video to user’s Twitter feed, Facebook account or Twitch channel.
The update will include a video editor that allows users to further edit their clips. The new update will also let users use the share button on the controller to save clips and screenshots to a USB device.
Sony has also announced that a future update will let users archive their Twitch broadcasts at a resolution of 720p. The company says that it is working in partnership with Twitch and Ustream to make such features a success.
Scott McCarthy, Director, Product Planning & Software Innovation, SCEA wrote on Sony’s official PlayStation blog that “We recognize that some gamers want to record and share longer clips of their gameplay sessions, and we’re excited to deliver this option with PS4. There’s a lot more coming in this update as well, so stay tuned for more—there will be plenty in the update to excite everyone.”
