Microsoft has confirmed that it is working with Reliance Jio to bring its game streaming service Project xCloud to India. A Microsoft spokesperson told The Mako Reactor, “Yes, we confirmed the news of our intent to bring Project xCloud to Indian gamers with Reliance Jio as part of our Future Decoded event in Mumbai in late February.” We at Digit have reached out to Microsoft for the same. Microsoft told Digit, “We are excited to bring the Project xCloud preview to India later this year and learn from the great Indian gaming community. We are exploring our options with Jio but have nothing further to share at this time.” There is no information on a launch date for the service and “soon” doesn't really give us a time frame.

At XO19 held in London, Microsoft announced that Project xCloud would reach Indian shores as a preview in 2020. With Project xCloud, gamers will be able to stream their Xbox games from the internet to their smartphone or tablet. Along with expanding to new regions, xCloud will be available to Windows 10 PCs in 2020 as well.

The information about the partnership between Microsoft and Reliance Jio came to light at the Future Decoded keynote where Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Chairman, Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, sat down for a chat. Reliance Jio was instrumental in putting India on the global map of data consumption thanks to the Jio service providing data to consumers at affordable prices.
