GameStop reveals several PS5 features but its nothing we didn’t already know
HIGHLIGHTS

GameStop has a landing page dedicated to the PlayStation 5.

The page highlights certain features of the PS5.

The features aren’t anything new and reiterate what we already know about the console.

Sony has been silent about its upcoming PS5 for far too long. The last time the Japanese tech giant spoke about the console was at CES 2020 where we got a look at the official PS5 logo. Since then the only thing we know for sure is that Sony will not be present at E3 2020 and has also withdrawn from PAX and GDC 2020 due to the Coronavirus. GameStop seems to be looking to fill the void of PS5 news and has a listing page for the PS5 that reveals some details about the upcoming console. The page does not have any new information and only reiterates what we already know about the console.

The page talks about the fact that the console can play physical discs, something we are aware of. It also talks about the new features of the PS5 controller including the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, again features we have been aware of for months now. The listing also says that the console will have “full 8K TV support, Bespoke 8-core AMD chipset, 3D Audio, built-for-purpose SSD storage, backward compatibility with PS4 games/PSVR hardware,
And ray-tracing capabilities.” Again, we have been aware of this information. Elaborating on the CPU, the listing says that the console will have an 8-core, 16-thread CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 microarchitecture.

Microsoft on the other hand recently released a blog post by Xbox Head, Phil Spencer. The blog highlights the fact that the console has a 12 Teraflop GPU based on RDNA 2. It has a ZEN 2 CPU along with SSD storage and also supports hardware-accelerated DirectX ray-tracing. It also supports HDMI 2.1 bringing with it features like ALLM, VRR and more. You can read all the information revealed by Phil Spencer here

When it comes to games, Microsoft has confirmed that all first-party cross-gen games need to be purchased once. When you play a compatible game on the Series X, it will download the necessary update to take advantage of the new console. CD Projekt Red has said that Cyberpunk will need to be purchased only once on the Xbox. So if you purchase the game on your Xbox One and upgrade your console to the Series X, the game will download the relevant update when the developer releases it. This is called Smart Delivery and the option to partake is open to all developers.

Both Microsoft and Sony are slated to launch their new consoles in 2020.
