Sony Electronics has officially teased the launch of new premium headphones on May 19. There have been a lot of rumours of a new premium pair of headphones, positioned above the current WH-1000 series. They may be called ‘The ColleXion’ headphones, and are believed to carry the model number WH-1000XX. Let’s see what the new headphones could bring and when you can expect them.

Sony Electronics has posted on its Twitter handle that a launch event is scheduled for 9 AM PST (9:30 PM IST) on May 19th, and the teaser hints at a high-end over-ear design with glossy accents and textured ear cups.

The teaser doesn’t reveal the product name, but also hypes up the device to be a ‘Masterpiece’. Let’s see what the rumours suggest.

Sony The ColleXion: What to expect
The branding ‘The ColleXion’ first surfaced through trademark filings spotted by TheWalkmanBlog, while subsequent leaks from Dealabs and Android Headlines suggested that the company may be launching the product on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of the 1000X lineup.
According to leaked renders shared by Android Headlines, the upcoming headphones seem to have an over-ear design. But since it is considered a luxury product, there could be changes, one of which is rumoured to be a new hinge mechanism. This could be for hinge durability, which matters in long-term usage. Let’s see if it folds like the WH-1000XM6.
Another major change could be a more premium finish like leather or vegan leather materials, metallic hinge elements, and glossy detailing.
Under the hood, the Sony headphones could bear flagship-grade active noise cancellation, DSEE Ultimate audio processing, fast charging support, and a MediaTek MT2855 chipset. We could expect improvements in processing efficiency, ANC performance, and battery optimisation.
So far, the rumour mill and even the Sony teaser suggest that this may not simply be a WH-1000XM7 successor. It could be a premium tier above the current flagship lineup. As for pricing, the reports indicate around EUR 629 (about Rs 70,500).
