WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new privacy-focused feature for its Meta AI chatbot called Incognito mode. According to WaBetaInfo, this feature is included in the most recent Android beta version and allows users to interact with AI assistants while leaving no record of their conversation. For the uninitiated, the social media giant has been working on improving AI tools and recently introduced memory tools for Meta AI, which allow users to store details such as hobbies, dietary preferences, or professions in order to receive more personalised responses over time.

However, Incognito Mode will take a different approach, ensuring that all messages are temporary and not used to train AI or improve personalisation. Similar to private browsing in web browsers, Incognito Mode deletes all messages when a session ends.
The feature also overrides Meta AI’s memory function, so even if a user instructs the chatbot to remember specific preferences during an incognito session, those instructions are ignored. Users can ask questions or share sensitive information without worrying about the data being retained or reused.
With this, Meta’s instant messaging platform appears to be addressing growing concerns about data privacy in AI messaging tools. If the feature becomes public, users will have the option of making the chatbot feel more like a personal assistant or using the “zero memory” option, which allows people to interact freely without leaving any trace.
It should be noted that the Incognito Mode is currently being developed and has been widely distributed. However, if the report is correct, the feature may become available to the public in the coming weeks.
